…bearing fruit in every good work…~Colossians 1:10 (NIV)
How often do we let a chance to do good pass us by? Have you missed an occasion to give of your time or resources lately? How about a chance to forgive someone who has wronged you? With every day God brings us countless opportunities to be fruitful in every good work that we are willing to accept the challenge for. As we go through our day God gives us glimpses of things that we can do to promote His will and His ways on this earth, and He promises to provide for every endeavor. Scripture teaches in 2 Corinthians 9:8 “God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” (NIV) We are the children of the King of Kings, and He has promised to give us all the resources we need to make a difference in people’s lives for the better. We should have short term and long-term goals to promote the kingdom of God just as we have goals to promote "our kingdom" here on earth. The Lord wants us to get serious about His business and prepare to be a blessing, whether it be committing His word to memory so that we can encourage others to walk in love and forgiveness or making sure we have some cash in our pocket to provide for a need that we know we have been resourced to meet, we must all step up and fulfill our position in the body of Christ. Look around you. Your house is full of stuff, your car is full of stuff, your bank is full of stuff, and it all came from God. When we get our mind on track and start believing that every single thing that we have truly belongs to the Lord we will start spreading the love! You cannot out give God. Stop looking for a reason to be a blessing and start looking for a way. Everything has been provided. Jesus is not working to get something to us to be a help, He is sitting at the right hand of God.
We cannot allow ourselves to get too busy or to become indifferent to the needs of the people God puts in our lives. Hebrews 13:21 tells us God will “Strengthen (complete, perfect) and make you what you ought to be and equip you with everything good that you may carry out His will.” (AMPCE) Are you working with God to fulfill this scripture in your life? We can’t be His hands and feet on this earth if we do not know what He wants us to do. We must spend time in God’s presence. We must spend quality time with a heart prepared to listen. Let Him bring people to your mind that have needs in their life and then go meet those needs. That is what we are here for. That is what fills our hearts with joy. We are disciples; that means we are “learners”, we receive instruction from the Holy Spirit. We are apostles; an apostle is a “sent one”, we have been deputized to execute the Lord’s business everywhere we go. We are ministers; a minister is a “chief servant” that supplies relief to others. God does not hum haw around in His word about what we are supposed to be doing today. He sent Jesus as an example. When the sun comes up its time to take care of business…God’s business! Whose business will you be about today?
And Jesus said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” ~Luke 2:49 (NKJV)
How do you plan to be about God’s business today?
