What word from God is your faith resting in today?

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. ~2 Corinthians 4:17-18 (NKJV)

When we go to the refrigerator to get a glass of milk and there is none left, we have two choices. We can make a plan to pick up some more milk or we can say “the milk is gone we will never have milk again”. Now that might sound ridiculous but sometimes, we actually behave that way in other areas of life which are considerably more important. When we act this way about the “big” things like paying off our debts or believing God for our healing we are out of balance. We should know and believe in our heart that nothing is impossible for God. Who is to say our greatest desires require more effort from God than to provide a glass of milk? We hear all the time God wants us to trust Him with the details in our life, but more often than not we do not act on that truth and actually trust Him by stepping out and walking out the destiny He has preordained for us. We believe we can handle the details, or the “little things”. We can go get our own milk, right? What we miss in believing and behaving this way is that it is learning to trust God and being thankful in the “little things” that enables us to trust and believe Him for what would seem to be the impossible. So, can you go get your own milk? How? In the car that God provided? With money God provided through the job God provided? How often do we think with that perspective? That perspective is foundational to our faith because when we praise, we are raised!

Faith operates on a vision. In the Old Testament, God would make a promise, His people would believe Him and that became their vision. When we can see something with our mind’s eye, we can achieve it. But if our mind’s eye has been blinded, we have no direction. 2 Corinthians 4:4 teaches “whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe." (NKJV) Our faith is left inoperable without a vision. What word from God is your faith resting in today? It doesn’t matter if it’s a glass of milk, an increase in pay or to become a more mature Christian, you have to have a vision. Remind yourself often that nothing is too big for God. This world we live in was formed by words, just like our world is formed by our words. We are told in Proverbs 18:21 “death and life are in the power of the tongue…” (KJV) Speak words of life over yourself and those you love. When there is sickness, speak of God’s miraculous healing power that raises the dead. When there is lack, speak of God’s miraculous ability to provide exceedingly and abundantly beyond all we could think to ask for. When there is brokenness of heart, speak of God’s comfort through the power of His Holy Spirit. It’s time we get busy finding out what God has said about us and our situation in His word. We should be living in those promises by faith. See your vision realized with your mind’s eye and start speaking to those mountains that stand in the way. You and God make a great team. If you are not dreaming bigger than what you can accomplish in yourself then you are not dreaming at all!

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. ~Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)
