What do we have to offer the world?

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on His law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither, whatever they do prospers. ~Psalm 1:1-3 (NIV)

The Lord knows those who belong to Him by name, but we know them by their character. It’s not too difficult to look around and see those who have given their lives to the Lord as opposed to those who are living for themselves. The fruit of the Holy Spirit shows up clearly in the life of a believer. Scripture teaches no man knows another’s heart, but it also tells us that we are able to tell a tree by its fruit, whether good or bad. In Psalm 1 God gives us the rules to walk by to develop the character of a good man or woman. The Voice translation of Psalm 1:1 reads “God’s blessings follow you and await you at every turn: when you don’t follow the advice of those who delight in wicked schemes, when you avoid sin’s highway, when judgment and sarcasm beckon you, but you refuse.” (VOICE) That ought to give us something to think about

Jesus said in Luke 12:48 “For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required…” (NKJV) We have been entrusted with the gospel of Jesus Christ. The good news that we have been restored to a right relationship with God our Heavenly Father. We have been called to be witnesses to the difference a right relationship with God will make for those who believe in the finished work of Christ and because of that calling we have been entrusted with the government of the Kingdom of God and we are in no position to be found lacking when it comes to governing ourselves. Sure, we are going to make mistakes, we are going to fall, but thank the Lord for His promise that though we fall seven times He will pick us up again. We are in no position to wallow in sin, nor in the guilt that our sin produces. There is a continual flow of forgiveness coming from the throne of God for the repentant heart. We are told when we confess our sin that God is faithful to forgive our sin and cleanse us of all unrighteousness. That means we are only a confession away from a restored relationship with God through Jesus Christ when we miss the mark for our life. All has been provided! We need to remember that truth because the world is looking for someone that will walk in the truth of God’s word. We are ordained to proclaim the good news that Jesus has not only reconciled us to God, but also that He keeps us reconciled to God! We need to walk in confidence that the victory is ours through Jesus Christ. We can hold our head high because of what He has done. When the world sees that kind of faith they will look twice. If there is nothing different about us, what do we have to offer the world?

And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God and they will reign on the earth.” ~Revelation 5:9-10 (NIV)
