We all put our pants on one leg at a time!

As a father has compassion for his children, so the Lord has compassion for those who fear Him. For He knows how we were made; He remembers that we are dust. ~Psalm 103:13-14 (NRSV)

To truly know how awesome God is, we have to know what He brought us out of.  All of us were lost in our own selfish and sinful behavior when we came to Jesus.  We hadn’t actually lost our way because we never knew our way.  We had no worth or purpose outside our own understanding and that for the most part had been ascribed by our families and culture.  We had no idea who we were and most importantly we had no idea who our Heavenly Father was.  We were orphans starting our life of faith at ground zero just like everyone else who repented of their sins and accepted Jesus as their Savior.  That’s why it is said that the foot of the cross is level ground.   When we prayed that prayer, and we asked God to forgive us of our sins every single one of us knew all too well where we were at.  Despite our best efforts, throughout our life here on earth, we will again find ourselves right back at the foot of that cross no telling how many times seeking forgiveness and restoration from the only one who can deliver us.  Whether it’s a bad attitude or a bad habit that we need deliverance from doesn’t matter.  God tells us in Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God …” (NIV)  We all have successes and we all have failures.  We all put our pants on one leg at a time.

If you have found yourself coming up short today of who you wish you could be, take comfort in Psalm 103:13-14 “As a father has compassion for his children, so the LORD has compassion for those who fear Him.  For He knows how we were made; He remembers that we are dust.” (NRSV)  God knew what a mess you were and still picked you to be His child.  Jesus said in John 15:16 "You did not choose me, but I chose you…” (NIV)   Not only did He know what a mess you were then, He knew all the messes you were going to make for the rest of your life.  He knew you would need Him every minute of every day and He made a promise to be there.  He tells us in John 14:16 “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever.” (NIV)  He said I will be there to keep you safe, steady and strong and pick you up to dust you off when you need it.  God sees you as His perfect child, it’s time to start seeing yourself that way.  If you have “issues” you can rest assured that He knew about those issues before you did.  Quit looking at those issues and start praising Him for loving you anyway.  Then show Him how much His grace and forgiveness really mean to you by extending it to the people He brings to your path.  Look past their imperfections just as He looks past yours knowing that His grace fills the gaps for all of us.

He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. ~Ephesians 1:4 (NIV)

Have you found yourself back at the foot of the cross seeking forgiveness and restoration?
