Wait expectantly after you pray

But you rebelled against the command of the Lord your God. You did not trust Him or obey Him… ~Deuteronomy 9:23 (NIV)

The Lord tells us in Deuteronomy 9 that He told the Israelites to go up and take possession of the Promised Land that He was giving them.  But instead of them trusting and obeying the Israelites decided they were going to do their own thing.  They demonstrated to God that they did not trust Him by not obeying Him.  When we are not trusting God with our life, scripture teaches we are in rebellion.  He has promised to take care of us; mentally, physically, and emotionally.  He wants to meet our needs, but we must submit to His will.  Paul writes in Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (NIV)  When the bible tells us specifically not to do something and we do it anyway, it is sin.  In Philippians God tells us not to be anxious and He also tells us in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, we should present our requests to God.  Are you praying?  What specific petitions have you brought to the Lord recently?  No matter what we are dealing with, in every situation, we are to pray and with thanksgiving ask for what we need and for our heart’s desires.  James 4:17 tells us “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.” (NIV)

So now you know, to be anxious is outside of Gods will for your life and to not pray and ask for what you need, or desire is outside of Gods will for your life also.  That does not necessarily mean that every prayer you pray will be answered immediately.  In fact, when we have a hard time trusting God, it is usually because He is not moving as fast as we would like for Him to in a situation.  When you pray about something, and you do not see the answer quickly don't waste your time coming up with all sorts of reasons why God hasn’t responded to “your will”.  Just continue to present your prayers and petitions and trust that “His will” is going to be done in “His time” and that is the good and perfect will for your life.  There is a good chance you are in need of patience and that is most likely what God is trying to develop in you!  It is important for believers to know and understand that worry and anxiety is sin.  When the temptation to do it comes, God promises to make a way out.  But we need to look for that way and then choose it.  More often than not it is just by obeying what we already know we should do.  Way too often we miss grace because of our own pride.  Don’t let worry and anxiety distract you from trusting in the goodness of your heavenly Father.  If God has given us eternal life, will He not provide for us as we sojourn on this earth?  He says He will!  Can we not believe that God will take extra care to ensure that those whom He has redeemed with the precious blood of His Son are amply provided for every day?  Unfortunately, we are bound by time, but God is not, and He is never late.  Genesis 8:22 tells us “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.” (NIV)  Just as the farmer waits patiently and expectantly for a harvest after sowing his seed, we must wait patiently and expectantly on God’s perfect timing after we pray as we trust and obey Him in every area of our lives.  Keep God's word in your heart and on your mind and the enemy will not be able to distract you with fear, anxiety or worry!

These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. ~Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (NIV)
