The right answer

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. ~James 1:5 (NIV)

God is our ultimate resource for wisdom, discernment, understanding and knowledge.  He says ask for it and it will be given.  But there is a stipulation on that request.  God wants us to ask, but He also wants us to believe.  We cannot be double-minded.  We cannot doubt that God will do what He said no matter how long it takes before we see the answer to our prayers for His wisdom.  Many of us have prayed to the Lord for wisdom in one area of our life or another for years without giving up and we can rest assured that God will honor His word and be true to answer that prayer if we do not doubt in our hearts and keep pressing in.  The Lord promises us in James 1:25 “But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it-not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it-they will be blessed in what they do.” (NIV) Growing in the wisdom of God takes commitment on our part.  First, we have to live out His truths that we already know in our daily walk and then we must trust God to give us the wisdom we need to live in new levels of faith.

It takes wisdom to make progress and be successful and the Lord wants to give us wisdom for every area of our lives.  The challenges of life should always be viewed as opportunities to seek God’s wisdom.  They can ultimately become a source of encouragement when we pray and watch the Lord answer our prayers.  If you haven’t had that experience before, I encourage you to seek the Lord when you need wisdom about what you should do or even how you should feel in any given situation or concern.  He wants to help us, by giving us His understanding.  When we walk in those truths, He makes us shine!  He says we are here to display His splendor.  How would you like to have the right answer in any given situation?  God says we can if we look to Him.  God isn’t holding back on anyone; He wants everybody to come to Him.  He wants to give us His wisdom and with His wisdom our ideas, attitudes, beliefs, conceptions, and circumstances are all subject to being changed from being tossed to and fro, to being steered directly on course.   We need the Lord’s wisdom just to make it through each day.  When we walk in our own wisdom we get tripped up and God is the only one who can enable us to learn from our circumstances.  Some people say they went to the school of ‘hard knocks”.  The bible calls that person a fool.  God didn’t raise us up out of our sin to be fools.  He raised us up to reign in life.  He tells us in Proverbs 26:11 “As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly.” (NIV)  As graphic as that may sound, that is what it looks like to God when we don’t walk away from our experiences wiser.  Scripture teaches wisdom cries out to us, but we get so wrapped up in our own agenda and ideas that we forsake God’s wisdom for our own.  God knows it all.  We don’t.  The good news is that He wants to share that knowledge.  He knows every wonderful thing tomorrow has to hold for you and me.  If we aren’t going to Him with our needs, it’s to our own detriment.

You do not have because you do not ask God. ~James 4:2 (NIV)
