Renewing our minds is an ongoing process

But we have the mind of Christ and do hold the thoughts (feelings and purposes) of His heart. ~1 Corinthians 2:16 (AMP)

What would our lives look like if there was never a negative thought?  How different could life be if we cheerfully abandoned all our doubts and unbelief as easily as we allow our circumstances to become center focus and the promises of God to drain from our hearts and minds?  It could be a game changer!  Our indifference to God’s promises puts us on the path to making our own way in this world.  How limited is that?  When we become indifferent to or even outright reject the truth of God’s word our human weakness becomes dominant.  God’s word is described as a double-edged sword.  That is the kind of weapon we need to cut through the challenges of life every day.  His truths have been given for our freedom.   Scripture teaches us in Luke 1:37 “No word of God will ever fail.” (NLT) The question is, what word from God are you holding on to?   We are told in Hebrews 10:23 “Let us seize and hold tightly the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is reliable and trustworthy and faithful [to His word].”  (AMP) Knowing Gods word and clinging to Gods promises will keep your mind busy and prevent you from falling into a trap of wrong thinking.  God told Joshua to keep His word before Him all the time.  How often do you have God’s word in front of you?  What promise have you received from God that you are counting on Him to fulfill and manifest in your life?  Do you need wisdom?  Discernment? Understanding? Direction?  All of those can be found in God’s word and as we search it out with the Holy Spirits guidance, God gives us all the above!

The bible teaches us that our thoughts precede our words, and our words determine our destiny.  Where does that leave us if we choose to live with untrained minds?  Renewing our minds with the word of God is an ongoing process and He tells us if we don’t renew our minds then we will conform to the pattern of this world.  We will digress to following human philosophies instead of the wisdom of God. Conforming to that pattern leaves us as salt with no flavor and our lamp under a bowl, per Jesus.  Renewing our mind with the word of God enables us to walk in confidence and authority because although we have an enemy and face troubles daily, we know we walk in Christ’s victory in everything.  Nothing can defeat us or separate us from God’s love or watchful eye.  The more time we spend in God’s word, the more faith we will have to trust Him and believe His promises.  God knew we couldn’t control our thinking all at one time. That’s why He sent us His Holy Spirit.  His job is to bring to our mind all that Jesus has taught us in His word.  Jesus said in John 14:26 “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” (NIV) We are promised in 1 Corinthians 2:16 that we have the mind of Christ.  We must remind ourselves of that truth—we have the ability to think good, healthy, loving and caring thoughts. Those thoughts will eventually be what we speak, and it won’t be long before we start seeing the fruit of our words as we live out the amazing destiny God has planned for us!

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. ~Romans 12:2 (NIV)
