You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing. ~Psalm 145:16 (NIV)
What a wonderful promise from God. He opens His hand and satisfies our desires. From the tiniest critter to the greatest nation, it is God who has been satisfying the desires of all creation for all time. Not you or me or any entity. God alone carries the responsibility and notice He doesn’t say He satisfies our most basic needs. He says He satisfies our desires. Many times, we get wrapped up with whether the things we want are “greeds” or if they are true “needs”. The enemy wants us to believe we are selfish, but God says dream big! He doesn’t say in Psalm 145:15 that the only thing coming from His hand is our daily bread, although He promises that too! No, in this verse He is promising to fulfill our dreams and desires that He Himself has placed in our hearts. He tells us in 3 John 2 “Beloved, I pray that in every way you may succeed and prosper and be in good health physically, just as I know your soul prospers spiritually.” (AMP) God does not tell us that barely getting by with a broke down car or a broke down body is good enough. He tells us in Isaiah 54:2-3 “Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes. For you will spread out to the right and to the left." (NIV) In other words “prepare for bigger and better”. The Lord tells us in Romans 12:13 “Get into the habit of inviting guests home for dinner.” (TLB) How are we going to be able to do that if we barely have enough to get by? But if we are trusting in the Lord to provide, we can be extravagant with His mission knowing He finances His agenda for our lives richly! It is extremely important for believers to be able to receive from God to be able to be a blessing on this earth to those who are looking for His glory. It’s supposed to be shining through us!
God never says “that’s enough! You don’t need any more so stop dreaming and just be happy with what you have.” We are more than capable of increasing and being content at the same time and that is exactly how it is supposed to be. Our Heavenly Father is a loving Father who wants His children to dream big and then watch Him fulfill those dreams so we can be His hands and feet to help fulfill the dreams of those around us. What a blessing it is to see answered prayer, but what a greater blessing it is to be an answer to prayer. We should all be seeing our prayers answered every single day. But how can we if we don't even know what we should pray for? Do you have a dream? If not, what's up with that? Scripture teaches that without vision people perish. We waste away wishing upon a star because we haven’t set aside time with God for Him to impart His vision for our lives into our hearts. What’s keeping you from dreaming and praying big? Don't let the enemy distract you from looking ahead to what could be. He doesn’t want you to step into your possibilities because that would be a witness to how big your God is! Press on with God and start thinking about what a miracle from heaven would look like for you. The Lord tells us in Galatians 6:9 “…for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (NIV) It might not be easy at first to slow down long enough to get in God's presence so you can get a vision, but God promises it will be well worth the effort!
