Pray continually. ~1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NIV)
It has been said that it is the “business” of Christians to pray, just as farmers plow and dentists take care of your teeth, a believer has a God given responsibility to “pray continually” and if you are a Christian farmer or a Christian dentist, you pray while you work! Prayer moves the hand of God, yet statistics show most Christians spend less than 5 minutes a day in prayer. This is such a tragedy and just demonstrates the fact that we fail to recognize what a privilege the ability to come boldly to God and seek His wisdom and provision really means! We expect God to show His power in our lives in mighty ways and yet we spend more time brushing our teeth every day than we do praying. Are you experiencing the power of God in your life? Would you like more strength, peace, and direction every day? How about some more miracles? God wants us to come to Him in prayer for every need. He wants us to come when we are hurting, when we are angry, when we need direction and answers. He wants us to come to Him when we need hope and healing, courage and strength, forgiveness, confidence, and a new perspective. Do you need any of those today? If you want your spiritual life to change in amazing ways, start praying more! Prayer is an open dialogue with your Father in the realm of Heaven and He says that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
There are many things going on in our lives every day that we should be talking to the Lord about, many things we should be making a petition for and many things we should just be thanking Him for, and we should know the difference between the two. God has outlined in His word that He has already provided peace, guidance, healing, and an abundance of other blessings so we don’t have to go to Him and ask for them. We go to God and thank Him for them and recognize that He will manifest His perfect will in our life every day if we trust in Him and His word. The Lord does, however, tell us to ask Him for wisdom. He tells us in James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God…” (NIV) Our prayer for wisdom should be our continual prayer. Who doesn’t need wisdom every minute of every day for every circumstance, every encounter, and every relationship? When was the last time you asked God for His wisdom regarding a matter? It never hurts to keep a journal of your prayers. Many of us have had seasons where we journal our prayers and I have never met anyone that did not grow by being able to look back at all the ways God came through for them. It’s also an enormous source of encouragement and many times we are in such a hurry we forget what we have prayed for or even worse we forget to thank Him for answering our prayers! Throughout the bible we are taught to remind ourselves of what God has done for us daily. There’s power in praying. So go to God focused and fearless bringing Him every concern, need and desire, with thanksgiving, for what we know He has already done through His word. Write it down. God is the source of all power, and your prayers are essential to experiencing that power in your life!
Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it]. ~Hebrews 4:16 (AMP)
