Our walk becomes our legacy

Updated: Jun 28, 2023

I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. ~Galatians 5:16,25 (NKJV)

Sometimes life takes unexpected turns. As believers, being close to the Lord is imperative to our wellbeing. When we were recreated in Christ and came to know the presence of the Holy Spirit, we learned to get comfortable with the Lord. It’s important that we know that God never moves away from us, but sometimes we move away from God. Paul refers to the Christian life in 2 Corinthians 5:7 as a “walk” telling us to walk by faith, not by sight. When we do this, we move in perfect tandem with the Lord, just like a set of tire tracks. But if we decide to detach and follow our own plan, seeking to fulfill our desires verses God’s desires and will for our lives, we find ourselves unhitched from the Lord, not connected, and sometimes not even moving in the same direction! That is no way for a Christian to live because the most miserable place for a child of God to be is away from their Heavenly Father's presence.

On the contrary, there is absolutely nothing more amazing than walking with God daily. We have all the fruits of the Holy Spirit operating in our lives because we are walking in unity with our creator. We have love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control all operating in our soul at the same time and it doesn’t even hurt. It actually feels good to perpetuate the character traits of God when we aren’t trying to muster it up ourselves. But when we willingly let go of His hand and walk our own way, we begin to walk in sync with the world. 1 John 2:15 tells us “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.” (NIV) We face decisions throughout our day that determine whether we walk in tandem with God, or in sync with the world. Those decisions determine our destiny. They lay the foundation for our tomorrows. Our daily walk becomes our lifestyle, and our lifestyle becomes our legacy. So, watch your walk and leave a legacy with no regrets. Only you can determine where you are in your walk with God today. Only you can decide to live for Him and to do life His way, with His guidance. God promises when we do make that choice, He will back it up with promises for generations to follow. He says when we choose to serve Him, He will cause our children to want to serve Him and our grandchildren. He says in Isaiah 54:13 “All your children will be taught by the Lord and great will be their peace.” (NIV) If you aren’t where you need to be, His hand is always extended to draw you back on the right path. Grab His hand and let Him lift you up! He will draw you close and restore you to where you ought to be. Even if you have to be lifted up over and over again never quit. Count on God giving you a wonderful legacy for generations to follow as you choose to follow Him.

I have seen their ways, but I will heal them; I will guide them and restore comfort to Israel’s mourners ~Isaiah 57:18 (NIV)
