No plan made by man is set in concrete

Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. ~Proverbs 27:1 (AMP)

God tells us not to boast about tomorrow, but He does not say that we should not prepare for tomorrow. In Proverbs 6:6-8 He tells us “Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.” (NIV) God says it’s the sluggard that does not manage himself and his life properly and prepare for the future. In the book of James God gives us His “rule of thumb” in planning and preparing for an unknown tomorrow. In James 4:13-15 we read “Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” (NIV) Every plan should start and end with “if it’s the Lords will”. This brings glory to God because we are seeking His will for our lives.

We also must remember that no plan made by man is set in concrete. God alone controls our steps so we should prepare for tomorrow with a realization of our limited understanding. If you looked back over your life or even the past few years you would see that you have found yourself in places you never thought you would be, spending time with people you had never met before and enjoying activities you never thought about doing. We tend to be led by our emotions a lot, and emotions will get you off track quicker than anything! Our emotional self loves comfort zones and if it wasn’t for the Lord rustling our feathers every once in a while, we would never be able to experience the possibilities the Lord has for us. Instead of sticking to our plans to our own detriment, we need to be open and ready for the Lord to make His adjustments. It will save a lot of frustrations. Jesus, when teaching the people to pray said in Matthew 6:10 “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” (KJV) Seeking our will before we seek God’s will in any endeavor gets us out of balance. We need to remember that God has a paramount perspective of our lives, and we have a miniscule perspective. The good news is we don’t have to spend our time wondering or worrying about what God’s will is. All we have to do is open up our bible. God’s word is His will. Walking in God’s will is not walking in the dark, it’s walking by faith. David said in Psalm 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (KJV) As we spend time in God’s word, He give us wisdom and direction for our lives through His Holy Spirit living in us. If you find yourself sitting in the middle of something that wasn’t your plan, you can safely trust in the Lord, knowing that either way, He directs your steps, and His plan is better than anything you could come up with.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. ~Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

What plans have you made that didn’t end up the way you expected?
