Make it your goal to please God

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. ~James 4:7 (NIV)

Everybody surrenders to something in life. If we refuse to surrender to God, then we by default surrender to the "god of this world" and his way of doing things.  Have you ever met someone totally sold out to something?  We all have the potential to be workaholics, spendaholics, sleepaholics and the list could go on and on.  God wants us to live a balanced life, prioritizing our lives with Him at the top of the list.  Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:24 "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” (NIV)  Are you trying to serve two masters?  We are free moral agents and able to choose what we will surrender to, but none of us are free from the consequences of our choices.  What you “spend” your life believing and doing has both a price and a reward.  You can turn it all around today and make it right just by believing what God says and living according to His Word.  When you serve God first and foremost, everything else will serve you.  That is how it is supposed to work.  The Lord says those of us who are in Christ are a new creation.  We are to be led by the Holy Spirit who lives in us.  He is our navigator in this life and if we listen to Him, we will sidestep distractions and He will keep us on course with the destiny He has planned for our lives.

God tells us in James 4:7 how to break the enemy’s temptations that causes us to lose our perspective and send him packing!  We must submit and surrender to God by doing things His way and not our own.  Then and only then will our enemy flee.  Do you need to get rid of some evil attacks on your life or in your family?  Then submit your will to Gods will and start believing Him and acting like His word is the truth.  Those attacks can be anything from what your bank account is saying that is contrary to what God says or even that lingering dread in the back of your mind telling you that things are never going to change or that life is not getting better but worse every day.  You are not going down!  God says those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.  You and only you have the ability to resist the enemy and surrender to God.  Nobody can do it for you.  A very wise man once asked me “is it true, or do you just think it’s true?”  He was trying to explain to me that what I believe is what I get in life, and that I have the potential and actually the propensity to believe a lie to my own detriment.  We all have the potential to have a skewed perspective so to speak.  If I believe anything over God’s word, it’s my choice and the consequence will be that I will not experience God’s best because I refused to believe the truth.  Surrender isn’t the best way to go; it’s the only way to go.  It’s the only way that won’t leave us disappointed and spiritually bankrupt.  We are told in Romans 12:1 that surrender is our reasonable service to God.  The wisest choice you ever make will be to resist the enemy and begin saying yes to God's way of thinking and adjust your life and accordingly.

So we make it our goal to please Him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. ~2 Corinthians 5:9 (NIV)

Have you found anything in God’s word that doesn’t line up with your perspective? What do you need to change your mind about?
