Make God's Word Final Authority

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness ~2 Timothy 3:16 (NIV)

We are very blessed when God surrounds us with people who have made His word the final authority in their lives.  They trust the Lord and walk out their lives with an overcoming attitude because they have spent time with Him.  They have heard from Him, and they have seen their faith tested and the Lord has proven Himself time and again to be strong on their behalf.  Those who are led by the Spirit of God (or the Word of God) and not by their flesh do not allow jealousies, resentments, or bitterness to distract them or hinder their progress. They walk above their circumstances and with God consistently because they spend time with God consistently.  When we learn to have our lives centered in the word of God, He can use us to be a witness to His awesome power and goodness, but God's word will never be the foundation in the life of someone who hasn't spent any time with Him there.  It is imperative to our success in every area of our lives to spend time with God in His word and then to listen to what God has to say to us.  That can happen anywhere and everywhere.  The Lord doesn’t play favorites and He is with us always.  He says in Proverbs 1:20-21 “Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice; at the head of the noisy streets she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks.”  (ESV)  Notice that those who are going to hear the voice of wisdom are on the move.  They aren’t sitting in a dark room waiting for a sign.  They are in the market, on the street and at the city gate.  Life is moving and so are they.  God doesn’t want our pace to be out of control, but He doesn’t want us stagnant either.

We are all wearing many hats in our homes and communities.  We are husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, employees, coworkers, associates, friends and the list goes on.  All of those roles come with daily responsibilities that keep us moving and when in transit we need to be not only listening for Gods direction, but we also need to be a witness to what He is doing in our lives.  Somebody is watching and listening to us at all times, and we should be aware of how powerful our words and actions affect each and every person we encounter.  We need to make sure we walk the walk and not just talk the talk.  We need to know what Gods word says so we are able to do as God tells us in 2 Timothy 3:16, to “teach, rebuke, correct and train in righteousness”.  When we encourage and counsel people from our perspective, we will always fall short.  That’s why we have God’s word.  It’s given so we have His perspective.  When we are open to His wisdom, He will give us the ability to bring His truth and revelation about every situation we encounter and help others along the way as well.  Make the foundation of your life God’s word by spending time with Him and learning His will and His way.  Then you will be able to love, help and encourage others with His wisdom, which is much better than your own!

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." ~Isaiah 55:8-9 (NIV)

In what ways has the Lord proven Himself strong on your behalf?
