Love Covers

Updated: Jul 28, 2023

Shem and Japheth took a cloak, held it between them from their shoulders, walked backward and covered their father’s nakedness, keeping their faces turned away so they did not see their father’s exposed body. ~Genesis 9:23 (MSG)

The word of God is filled with stories of real people with real problems doing really crazy stuff, right? Just like you and me! It can be encouraging to learn more about people who were bouncing back and forth between struggles and hardships and bad choices. That’s because it is common for all mankind. It is what we have been told would be our lot on this side of Heaven. Jesus said in John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (NIV) Sometimes troubles hit from out of nowhere and sometimes we bring our troubles on ourselves with poor choices, but neither of those really matter when we look at the promises of God in His word. He has promised to cover us with His love, despite what we have done, are doing or will do and He promises to do it all day, every day for the rest of eternity. What a promise! Do you believe that God is proactively fulfilling that promise in your life today? If not, you need to spend some time with the Lord and ask Him to help you straighten out your thinking! God has promised that in Christ we have been set free from not only our sins but the repercussions of our sins. That is the truth. If you aren’t living it, then it is because you don’t believe it. God has done His part. Now we must do ours and we all live in the abundance of God’s love and promises the same way, by faith.

Once we accept the truth of God’s word into our hearts by faith….we are compelled to share it. This is the truth that Jesus was prophesying when He told that generations disciples in Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (ESV) We receive power by faith and then we are witnesses to the source of that Power, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Power to live a life that honors God. Power to bring hope and healing to a lost world. Power to overcome temptation and tread on the enemy of our souls. Are you living a powerful life? Are you accomplishing big things in your world? Those big things we are supposed to be doing are to be perpetuating the ministry of Jesus Christ in our world today for our generation. To do that we have to believe that His love has covered us, freeing us to move out into living our lives for Him without fear, doubt or unbelief. Just as Noah’s sons covered their father’s nakedness, we are called to cover the nakedness of others. We are not called to expose or judge, we are called to reconcile and restore. There are people all around us looking for help. The kind of help that only God can give. If you are born again, you have been endowed to be His hands and feet in this earth. You have been equipped to meet the needs around you just like Jesus met the needs of those around Him. The way we do that is by faith! All of Heaven’s resources are at your disposal to do the will of God in the earth today. Give it a shot today. Ask God to open your eyes to see where you are called to “cover” someone with His love. Then go do it. Our lives can be divine screenplays and symphonies funded by the creator of the universe. The King of Kings! He has promised to be our life partner and provider in all the good works He predestined for us!

When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. ~Colossians 2:13-15 (NIV)
