Lord, open our eyes

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. ~Luke 10:19 (KJV)

The circumstances of life can be frightening, and they can drain us of our zeal.  When days seem to never end and our nights become restless, we need to encourage ourselves that we weren’t created to handle everything alone.  Jesus tells us in Luke 10:19 that He has given us power.  That power from on high is the anointing of God and the anointing is with us in the form of the Holy Spirit.  Jesus told His disciples to wait in the city until they received power.  They later understood what He was talking about when they were filled with the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.  Today, if you are a believer, you are not alone.  You have the Holy Spirit inside of you and a host of heavens armies with you.  We should not underestimate who we are as born-again children of God.  The Lord tells us we are a new creation.  He says we are to consider ourselves dead to sin and risen with Christ.  If you have been risen with Christ, and the bible plainly says you have been seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, then you should expect to reign with Christ in this life and over your circumstances.

In the 6th chapter of the second book of Kings the Aramean army was coming against Israel and Elisha’s servant cried “What shall we do?”  Elisha’s response should be our model for tough situations.  In verse 7 Elijah interceded to God for his servant Elisha praying "Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see."  The rest of that scripture tells us “Then the Lord opened the servant's eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” (NIV)  A host of heaven’s armies were on the hill ready for battle on behalf of God’s people, and that host is surrounding God's people today also.  The expression “cutting off your nose to spite your face” describes many of us when we go through the trials of life.  That basically means our behavior can be needlessly self-defeating.  Why?  Because we are the ones crying out “what shall we do” instead of the one praying “Lord, open our eyes”.  We know the word of God, we understand the promises, but we don’t apply them to our lives.  The Lord tells us in Hebrews 1:4 “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?" (NIV)  Do you depend on the fact that the Lord has sent angels specifically to minister to your needs because you have been saved through your faith in Christ?  We can’t do it alone.  We might need an angel to step in every once in a while and God has promised to provided them.  When we truly believe He has, we will be able to depend on His provision!  Each day, as trials and temptations surround you or your friends and family, let this be your prayer: “Lord, open our eyes so we can see your presence, provision and protection in every circumstance”.

And He that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And He said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.  And He said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. ~Revelation 21:5-7 (KJV)
