Lay your request before the Lord today

In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. ~Psalm 5:3 (NIV)

The psalmist tells us in the morning he lays his request before the Lord and then he waits expectantly.  Have you laid your request before the Lord this morning?  What do you need that only God can make happen for you today?  God wants to bring His supernatural power into every aspect of our lives.  He doesn’t just want to bless us enough to make it through the day.  He wants to give us so much it abundantly flows out of us and affects everyone around us.  All of this comes when we pray in the morning and wait expectantly.  Far too often we want to make things happen ourselves.  We leave God out of the equation in the morning and then when we fall into bed at night exhausted with half of what we needed to accomplish done, we are irritated and unfulfilled.  Do you feel unfulfilled?  Do you feel like your hopes and desires are elusive to you?  Well maybe you are trusting in the wrong source.  Maybe you are trying to make something happen that only God can make happen.  Then the burden isn’t on you.  It’s on the Lord.  We all need miracles every day in every form.  If we cannot trust God to help us as we discipline ourselves to maintain a good attitude, how are we going to trust Him with anything else?  We need healing, we need financial burdens lifted, we need family members loving and caring about each other and walking in integrity but most importantly we need to believe the Lord loves us and wants us to have these things more than we even want them.

Let your faith expect from God what is beyond all expectation!  Make your request so big that when you are thanking God for His answer this afternoon there is no doubt that the blessings were all Him.  He tells us in Hebrews 11:6 “without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” (NIV)  That ought to be reason enough to bring your greatest desires to Him this morning by earnestly seeking His presence.  It is in God’s presence that we are changed and when we change, our circumstances will begin to change.  God knows what our desires are better than we even know ourselves.  What is important to Him is our relationship with Him and with others.  To earnestly seek God is not to haphazardly throw a prayer up.  Earnestly seeking God requires a commitment to find out what He has to say about our situation and then to communicate with Him about it.  That means praying and then patiently waiting to hear from Him.  Take an inventory of what you would like or need the Lord to do for you today.  The psalmist wasn't too proud or too ashamed to make his request and we shouldn't be either.  Lay your request before Him, the big ones!  Remember that waiting and waiting expectantly are two different things.  When we wait expectantly, we have our “mind’s eye” on the blessing and we know at just the right time…God’s going to make it happen, so we expect it!

Out of the fullness of His grace He has blessed us all, giving us one blessing after another. ~John 1:16 (GNB)
