It will PASS OVER!

The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt. ~Exodus 12:13 (NIV)

When the angel of death came upon Egypt, God told His people, the Israelites, to place blood on the doorposts of their homes.  He promised when He saw the blood that no destructive plague would touch them.  When we think of a plague, many of us think of an epidemic disease or sickness.  But the word plague actually encompasses how the plague affects us as well.  Some synonyms would be “torment, bother, harass, worry, irritate and disturb”.  Of course, physical sicknesses and disease cause all of these, but so do mental and emotional sicknesses and disease.  Have you been plagued with fear lately? How about doubt or worry?  Can you think of a harassing situation or irritations that seem to come against you daily?  All of the above could be considered destructive plagues.  The Lord tells us in Psalm 91:9-10 “If you say, ‘The Lord is my refuge,’ and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.” (NIV)  We can't be plagued and trust God at the same time.  We have to choose one or the other and we are making that choice every day for every area of our lives.

God wants to deliver us from every destructive plague, everything that torments and worries us.  But we have to trust in Him by applying the blood.  1 Corinthians 5:7 tells us “For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.” (NIV)  When Jesus sacrificed His life on the cross for us, it wasn’t just to purchase eternal life for those who would believe in Him.  It was also to give believers victory today.  Salvation is more than just a ticket to heaven.  It is a spiritual regeneration.  We aren’t made better.   We are made new!  Don’t try to add or take away from the pure truth of God’s word just because you have to reason it out in your mind.  It doesn’t seem fair that we get to go free because Jesus paid for our sins, but it is true.  It doesn’t seem right that He bore all the consequences for what we have done wrong, but He did.  It really doesn’t seem reasonable that we are under the grace of God that keeps and protects us until we are translated to eternity to be with our Lord forever, but that is what the bible teaches us.  There are no conditions placed on God’s love for you if you are in Christ Jesus.  God’s love is unconditional.  We can’t add anything to what God has already done to purchase our deliverance.  It’s the blood of Jesus alone.  It is not partly on God and partly on you.  Your understanding, efforts and faithfulness are not the deciding factor. Jesus made it happen over 2000 years ago, ALL BY HIMSELF, and all the glory goes to Him.  Have faith in Jesus that His blood will bring you the victory over life’s circumstances today.  Start saying the Lord is your refuge.  You have the promise of God that His blood covers your entire life, and those plagues will PASS OVER you!

Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. ~Hebrews 13:20-21 (NIV)
