The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. ~Deuteronomy 28:13 (NIV)
Who do you pay attention to? Who is the primary influence in your life? Is it your spouse? Your pastor? Your boss? Maybe a teacher? We are listening and learning all the time. We are subject to information on an unprecedented scale in this day and time. There is so much information that it can be overwhelming to know what to even believe. Some things that seem completely ridiculous to our minds are being proven to be true which can leave us baffled at the possibilities of what mankind is capable of…for good or for evil. Many people look at Deuteronomy 28:13 from a financial perspective. But for me, that would only be a byproduct. In terms of the body, what is the head? It’s the command center! It controls the entire body. Every part of the head has a function that controls the functions and destiny of the entire man. Where you go and what you do come from what you decide. What you decide comes from what you hear and what you see and what you think. Now what is the tail’s function? The tail or in humans “the coccyx” (aka the tailbone) provides support in a seated position. Now the seated position is necessary, but the command center is vital and it’s what has to be fueled! Basically, what the Lord promises to us when He says He will make us the head and not the tail is His wisdom which encompasses knowledge, understanding and revelation. God’s wisdom is what we need for success in every area of our life. The world’s wisdom will only take us so far because the world’s wisdom is the limited wisdom of mankind. It’s human reasoning at its best. God’s wisdom is limitless and unfathomable. If you want to be the head and not the tail in every area of your life you are going to need the Spirit of Christ living inside of you and that is exactly what you get when you accept Jesus as your Savior and receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in John 14:20 “On that day you will realize that I am in the Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.” (NIV) Has that day come for you? If so, your next step is to grow in your relationship with Him!
One of the greatest hinderances to being the “head” is our influences. We are told in Matthew 16:6 “Be careful”, Jesus said to them, “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” (NIV) The Pharisees and Sadducees were religious sects; they were influential denominations so to speak of Jesus’ day. Following Jesus telling them this, the disciples immediately began their worldly reasoning processes which led to arguing and chaos. Have you ever come up short between what the Lord is trying to tell you and what you think the Lord is trying to tell you? I have for sure, and I thank the Lord for His Spirit in me revealing to me His truth whenever I run down the proverbial rabbit hole trying to figure everything out myself! Jesus goes on to say to the disciples ““You of little faith, why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread? Do you still not understand? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered? Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered? How is it you don’t understand that I was not talking to you about bread? But be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees. ~Mathew 16:8-12 (NIV). Incorrect teaching produces unwanted outcomes! The wisdom of the world won’t make you the head. Only God can open your heart and mind to His way of doing things and that is done by His Spirit in you revealing to you His word to you. What word of God are you clinging to today? Lets make it our goal to find out what God has to say about what we have going on in our lives and commit to do things His way, There is a second promise in Deuteronomy 28:13 that is just as awesome as the first…”If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom.” (NIV) We stay at the top by believing God over every influence, every teaching and every circumstance that sets itself up against His word. It is time we cast down the so called “wisdom” of this world and start proclaiming and promoting the wisdom of God!
For the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds, [Inasmuch as we] refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One), ~2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (AMPC)
