He hears, and He answers

I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. ~Ephesians 1:16 (NIV)

The bible is full of models for our prayer life.  Paul’s letters to all the churches contain examples of prayers that we can pray over ourselves and our loved ones.  A recent online poll revealed that 68% of the people surveyed said they prayed daily.  So, the facts are that people are praying every day, and the subjects of those prayers are vast.  But they don’t faze God.  He knows we have needs and He knows many of them we cannot meet ourselves.  Having needs is a good thing and an especially good thing if we know the Lord because He is always there to meet our needs whatever they may be.  In 2 Chronicles 7:14 God promises He hears our prayers, and He answers them tangibly.  He says, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (NIV) The healing God is talking about pertains to every area of our lives, He heals our finances, He heals our relationships, He heals our emotions, and He heals our bodies.

Don’t let yourself get caught up in the legalities of prayer by thinking you have to pray a certain amount of time or even at a certain time.  Prayer is communicating with God just like we would a friend or family member.  He wants us to come to Him all day with every detail of our life.  It’s important for us to stay in communion with God because when we take ourselves out from under His presence, we open ourselves to the enemy.  Being able to cast down thoughts that rise up against the knowledge of God and who He is in our lives is a form of prayer.  Thoughts of trouble that steal our peace or thoughts of fear that try to replace our faith should be an immediate indicator that it’s time to pray.  We should be ever ready to go to the Lord to find out what He has to say about the situation and then act on His direction instead of out of our emotions.  We should never rely on our own abilities or intuitions, but we should prayerfully seek God’s wisdom moment by moment throughout the day.  As you go through your day today, make it a point to put every single frustration the enemy throws your way into God’s hands.  Give every disappointment to your Heavenly Father the moment that you feel it and don't forget to share your victories and joy with Him too. Tell the Lord that you are counting on His promise in Psalm 91:14-15 that says “Those who love me, I will deliver; I will protect those who know my name.  When they call to me I will answer them; I will be with them in trouble, I will rescue them and honor them.” (NIV) God promises that He has good plans for His people, no matter what we see going on around us.  But none of us are going to experience those good plans without faith.  Much of the faith we have comes from our prayer life.  Talking to God, listening to Him and trusting in Him are all acts of obedience to His word.  We are told in Romans 10:17 “faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (KJV) When was the last time you heard from God?  Hearing from God is what changes our mind and transforms our lives.  What’s holding you back from conversing with Him today?

Pray continually. ~1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NIV)
