Good stewards invest wisely

I press on to lay hold of (grasp) and make my own, that for which Christ Jesus (the Messiah) has laid hold of me and made me His own. ~Philippians 3:12 (AMPCE)

Every need and desire we have can be used by God to draw us closer to Him.  If you have placed your faith in Christ and have been baptized with God’s Holy Spirit, then you can be confident that the hopes and dreams you have in your heart are God given and ordained.  In Philippians 2:13 Paul tells us it is God who works in us helping us to want and then to do according to His good pleasure.  God has created each one of us for a purpose and we must learn to follow Him to discover what His purposes are for our lives.  When we spend time with God in His word it inspires us.  For some, it inspires them to write.  For others spending time with God inspires them to teach, or preach, or encourage, or sing, or care for others.  What does spending time with God in His word inspire you to do?   We get spiritual direction for our lives from God’s word.  It’s not just an option, it’s an opportunity and just like any other opportunity we must make an investment to receive the benefit.  Scripture is full of promises to those who seek God!

Going our own way and not choosing to spend time with God is skipping a vital step in walking out our destiny.  He tells us in Isaiah 58:13-14 “’If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on my holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight and the Lords holy day honorable, and if you honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words, then you will find your joy in the Lord, and I will cause you to ride in triumph on the heights of the land and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob.’ For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” (NIV)  Every day is a Sabbath for us.  We are not called to do as we please.  We are called to honor God and His word. We are called to worship Him and spend time in prayer with Him.  Then, He promises to cause us “to ride in triumph on the heights of the land and feast on the inheritance promised to our forefathers”.  If you are not riding high and feasting on an amazing inheritance today, it might be because you have not set aside your will to do God’s will first and foremost EVERY DAY.  In God's plan for us, we cannot skip steps that we don't like and move on. We cannot skip the hard steps or the ones that require sacrifice. Following God's plan for our lives requires investment in the Kingdom of God.  Reading our bible is an investment.  Prayer is an investment.  Praising God is an investment.  Giving to those in need is an investment.  These are all spiritual investments into a spiritual kingdom.  We must sacrifice self-will to have God's will. We must sacrifice our way to find His way.  Don't be afraid of sacrifice—look at it as an investment.  Good stewards invest wisely.  What are you investing in?

Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; ~1 Corinthians 13:5b (AMPCE)
