God wants your cup to OVERFLOW!

Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David. ~Isaiah 55:3 (NIV)

God’s everlasting covenant with you is His faithful love. It is His grace. It is His unmerited favor towards you and not according to anything you have done but because of the finished work of Jesus Christ. When we doubt in God’s faithful love it’s usually because we are witnesses to the unfaithfulness of others and even ourselves. It’s hard to imagine how God can love us after all we have done and caused. But God tells us to let it go because He has. He has freely forgiven us and anyone else who will come to Him and receive His unconditional love and forgiveness. Then God promises a feast. Just as our natural man takes food and drink for his nourishment and pleasure, God provides a feast for our spirit. God’s word and His presence is a feast for our spirit man. David says in the 23 Psalm “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” (NIV) That sounds to me like a blessed life! A life where God’s grace and forgiveness supersedes our weakness and failures.

God promises that blessed life for you and me. He wants us to walk and live out our lives as those in whom He is well pleased. Do you know that God is pleased with you? Do you know that God is not counting your sin against you? Not even the ones you committed yesterday. It’s true. He knew you when He called you and He knew everything you were going to do between then and the day you transitioned into eternity, and He said as far as the east is from the west is how far He is going to put our sin away from us. Every single transgression has been taken care of. Every single ugly word and every single bad habit is covered with the blood of Christ for those who are in Christ. The Lord wants us to come to know and understand what it means to be a born-again recipient of His Holy Spirit who leads us and guides us into all truth. That truth is that our Lord wants us to lack nothing. He wants to give us rest and peace. He wants to refresh our souls. No matter what we are going through, the Lord wants us to pledge not to fear, but to continually trust in Him and His faithful love. He wants our cup to overflow! When was the last time you reminded yourself “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life”? Do it today and every day. The shepherd of your soul is not just any sheep herder, He is almighty God!

For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; ‘He will lead them to springs of living water.’ ‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’” ~Revelation 7:17 (NIV)

How is God’s goodness and mercy following you today?
