God is on our side

No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.  I will not leave you or forsake you. ~Joshua 1:5 (ESV)

God told Joshua, just like Moses, his success was not going to be dependent on his abilities but on God’s promise to be with Him.  All of our endeavors require one major ingredient:  God is on our side.  The Lord confirms this in Romans 8:31 where we are told “if God be for us, who can be against us?” (KJV)  Joshua got to see first-hand what it was like for God to be with someone in the person of Moses.  Moses was a leader, a mediator, and a deliverer for God’s people.  He was human; therefore, he was not perfect.  He wrestled with his emotions, struggled with God’s call on his life, murdered a man and argued with the Lord.  Yet God used Moses, who not only served the Lord and the Lord’s people but wrote the first 5 books of the Old Testament.  Do you know in your heart of hearts that God is with you and for you?  Do you know that whatever you step out and do God will be alongside to counsel, coach and secure your footing?  If not, you can.  All you have to do is build your faith and confidence in God’s word to you by spending time with Him and then act on it by taking one step at a time and watching Him come through!

If we were able to see the host of angels God says are with us every day and the unlimited resources that He has to meet all of our needs, our confidence level would surely skyrocket.  But Jesus said in John 20:29 “blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (NIV)  We are blessed when we believe in the promises of God without evidence or proof.  Have you ever met someone who was true to their word?  Those kind of people are often few and far between in this world but the truth is, when you meet one, you will never forget them.  They keep their commitments and their word no matter what, even to their own demise.  Their confidence doesn’t stem from what they have or who they know but from doing right in the sight of God.  That is the fear of the Lord.  Now if there are men and women walking this earth that are capable of keeping their word no matter what, how much more do you think God will keep His word no matter what?  But still so many of us struggle to have confidence in God.  When we have been let down by people, especially those we trusted, it affects all our relationships.  But we cannot let it affect our relationship with God.  He is and always will be true to His word.  It takes a lot of strength and courage to stand in faith believing God will be true to His promises.  He tells us in Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (NIV)  God hasn't requested we be strong and courageous, He has commanded it.  He said do not let yourself be discouraged.  That means when discouragement comes you have to get offensive and tell yourself and anybody that will listen that God is on your side and that His good plan trumps any plan of the devil.  Trust God to be with you today.  He is always for you, and He will make a way where there appears to be no way.  Just as God was with Moses and just as God was with Joshua…so God is with you!

See, I have engraved you on the palms of My hands; your walls are ever before Me. ~Isaiah 49:16 (NIV)

Who do you know that keeps their word no matter what? What impact has their integrity made on your life?
