God does not want to just give you strength; He wants to be your strength. In 1 Samuel 15:29 scripture refers to God as “the Strength of Israel”. There were times when Israel knew God was their strength and there were times when they abandoned that truth. When they did, their lives would plummet into a downward spiral filled with failure and destruction. Have you noticed things falling apart around you? If so, take an inventory of whose strength you are operating in; yours or Gods? We receive God’s strength by faith. Our motto in life should be "God’s word says it, I believe it and that settles it". God tells us in Hebrews 11:11 that by faith Sarah received strength to conceive a child when she was well past her childbearing years. What do you need strength for today? What is God telling you to do that you do not believe you are capable of? Has God given you a promise that you just cannot see yourself walking in? We all need vision for what God is wanting to do in our lives. He tells us in John 16:13 “When He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth…and He will show you things to come.” (NIV) God is talking to His people today by His Holy Spirit in them and they are living in more and more victory because they are trusting in their God. When we put our faith in God, He gives us the strength to do the supernatural or by human standards the impossible! By faith we can receive the strength to stay in a difficult marriage, raise a difficult child, or prosper in a difficult job.
To have faith in God is to have confidence in not only His ability, but in His willingness to move in your behalf. The Lord tells us in Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” (NIV) Unbelievers struggle with believing that God exists but believers struggle with believing that God is going to reward them when they earnestly seek Him. Scripture says we have to have confidence in both. Believers in Jesus Christ should be operating in utmost confidence of God’s ability and willingness to move on their behalf. Jesus’ first miracle was to turn water into wine at the wedding He attended in Cana. Religious people might say that was an inappropriate miracle to ask God for, they might even quote the first part of the verse in Habbakuk 2:15 saying “Woe unto him that giveth his neighbor drink…” (KJV), but Jesus was led by the Spirit of God, not a religious spirit. He knew who His Father was, and He knew when God would move on His behalf, He habitually walked in confidence because He spent time with the Father and knew Him intimately. That should be our utmost goal. When all the odds are stacked against you, you can come out a winner because God is your strength and your song. Start receiving God’s strength by faith right now. Go look in the mirror and tell yourself God is your strength and keep telling it to yourself all day long until it gets deep down into your heart. Then go out in confidence and do what God has called you to do. No matter what you face today, you will know that you already have the victory because you have God's strength!
