Fix your thoughts

Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires. ~Romans 13:14 (NLT)

The Lord says we have a lot more control over our lives than we would like to admit.  Sometimes it's just easier to blame the devil, other people or even a bad day for how we act.  We wake up to a myriad of choices at the opening of every day.  God tells us we are supposed to clothe ourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ. That means we are to take control of our thoughts, our wills, and our emotions.  It is choosing to believe the best of every person and choosing to trust God in every circumstance knowing He is with us and for us and His goodness will always prevail.  Clothing ourselves with Christ means we walk in confidence that our Heavenly Father backs us up.  He does not withhold any good thing from us, and He is not only our shelter, but He is our hope.  To clothe yourself with Christ is to walk by the Holy Spirit and it takes an enormous amount of self-control to do that.  As a matter of fact, the bible teaches that self-control is one of the fruits that is produced when you are living a spirit led life and it all begins with what we let ourselves think about.  God says in Romans 13:14 “don’t let yourselves think about..”. (NLT) What are you letting yourself think about?  What we let ourselves think about has a direct correlation with the direction our lives are going to go and if we are going to experience the presence of the Lord or not.

We have to learn to crowd out contrary thoughts by focusing on God’s word.  We have to train ourselves to let his promises crowd out our doubts.  It’s time we get what God has said to us down in our hearts and refuse to let go!  Have you ever noticed that certain thought processes lead us closer to God and some seem to pull us far away?  Have you ever felt far away from God?  God says that can change if you change your mind!  We are told in Philippians 4:8 “and now dear brothers and sisters, one final thing.  Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable.  Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise”. (NLT)  Fixing your thoughts is just making up your mind about what you are going to think about.  It’s your choice.  Test yourself today.  It’s easy to tell if your thoughts are lining up with what God would expect because eventually what you are thinking about will come out in your words:  bitterness, worry, jealousy and anger can all come from the same heart as love, joy, peace, and faith depending upon what you fix your mind on.  Don’t you think it’s time to let God reposition you on the right course?  His course?  Are you ready to stop being tossed to and fro and let God change your mind so your ideas, attitudes and conceptions can line up with His?  Then assess your words and you will know the root of your thoughts.  They are the fruit of either a heart rooted in good things, or a heart rooted in evil.  Make the necessary changes to clothe yourself with Christ.  Stop asking for easier paths and start asking for stronger feet!

A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart.  What you say flows from what is in your heart. ~Luke 6:45 (NLT)
