Empty Yourself

Instead he emptied himself of his outward glory by reducing himself to the form of a lowly servant. He became human! ~Philippians 2:7 (TPT)

The word of God teaches that God emptied Himself of His deity and took on the body of a human in the form of Jesus. Emmanuel, God with us!  Jesus was our example of who our Holy Father is and what He wants to do in the earth.  It goes without saying that the Lord knew a life experience was the most impactful way to demonstrate Himself to the world.  So, He came!  I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t imagine my life without Him.  I am so glad He opened the way for me to experience His love and His presence by giving His life for me on that old, rugged cross.  Our Lord paved the way for exactly what He wanted us to be doing every single day in every situation.  He “emptied himself”.  When was the last time you felt like you were empty?  When was the last time your tanks needed refilling?  Your love tank, your financial tank, your emotional tank, all our tanks can be emptied one of two ways.  Either pouring into yourself or pouring out of yourself.  I know it seems odd that pouring into yourself would empty you, but it truly does.  That is because you were created in God’s image, and you were created to give.  In addition, if we are pouring into ourselves, we are responsible for refilling our own tanks, but if we are pouring out of ourselves into others, God promises that He Himself with keep our tanks full.

The Lord tells us “Refuse to worry about tomorrow, but deal with each challenge that comes your way one day at a time. Tomorrow will take care of itself.” ~Matthew 6:36 (TPT)  There is no way we can walk in the destiny the Lord has prepared for us and worry about tomorrow at the same time so getting ahold of this truth and keeping it in your heart and at the forefront of your mind is vital to your victory.  You cannot give of your resources if you’re worried about tomorrow, much less your time or energy.  The truth is that if we are worried about tomorrow, we are contemplating negative possibilities.  What negative possibilities have crossed your mind so far today?  Well, you can look at them all, every single one of them as an attack of the enemy who is doing everything that he can do to prevent you from emptying yourself and personifying love like your Holy Father in Heaven is love.  It takes an act of our will to focus on the best possible outcome in every situation and for every person, but that is exactly what the Lord expects us to do.  We must know without a doubt that not only can God’s power change any attitude or circumstance, but He wants to use His power to bring about the changes we want to see in ourselves and others because He has placed those desires in our hearts.  The Lord teaches us “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.  And if we know that he hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of him.” ~1 John 5:14-15 (NIV) Don’t you think it’s time to start trusting God with your tomorrows and living for Him today?  There is no better way to live.  Give Him all your concerns and pour all you have into loving others and in return, He will give you rest from all your worries!

If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me and I will give you rest.  Take the yoke I give you.  Put it on your shoulders and learn from me.  I am gentle and humble, and you will find rest.  This yoke is easy to bear, and this burden is light.  ~Matthew 11:28-30 (CEV)
