Dedicate your temple

Yet graciously consider the prayer and supplication of Your servant, O Lord my God, to hearken to the [loud] cry and prayer which he prays before You today. ~1 Kings 8:28 (AMPCE)

We can learn a lot by how Solomon, aka “the wisest man who ever lived", dedicated his temple to God.  The Lord tells us in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price.  Therefore honor God with your bodies.” (NIV)  We are the temple of God and we are to dedicate that temple every day by honoring God in all that we allow ourselves to think knowing that it affects what we do and say.  When we live what we believe in this manner, we are a witness to the world.  Much like a soldier dedicates himself fully to his call of duty, a believer must dedicate themselves fully to the call God has placed on their lives starting with taking control of our mind.  We do not always know exactly what God has planned for us to do so we have to be ready for anything at any time.  A double mind will throw us into confusion as to what we should do or how God expects us to behave so we must be dedicated to knowing what the Lord has to say in any given situation.  We must be diligent to look for ways to demonstrate our faith and trust in the Lord to lead us where He would have us to go.

Use Solomon’s example when you dedicate your life to the Lord by first confessing your sin and thanking God for His forgiveness because that is what restores and maintains our fellowship with the Lord.  It gets the devil off our back with his condemnation and criminalization.  We can trust fully that the blood of Christ has cleansed us of all sin and that we have been restored to a right relationship with God when we confess our sins.  We cannot be led by God if our relationship with Him is not right.  We are told in Ephesians 4:30 “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen and do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God…” (NIV)  Unfortunately we do a whole lot of sinning with our mouths every day and scripture tells us that it grieves God.  The bible teaches that our tongues are set on fire from hell.  That’s pretty descriptive of the damage that we are capable of doing with our words.  Being quick to confess and repent when our words do not line up with God’s word is vital to walking by faith in the presence of our Heavenly Father and that is what we were created for!  There is no greater joy than living in the presence of God and the only thing that will keep us from it is unconfessed sin in our lives.  So repent when the Holy Spirit gets quiet within you and received God’s restoration.  God wants to be a part of the amazing life He has ordained for you and me.  There is nothing more awesome than sharing our lives with God every day and Jesus gave His life to make that possible!

For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.” ~2 Corinthians 6:16 (NIV)
