Cheer yourself up in the Lord

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. ~Proverbs 23:7 (AMP)

What have you been thinking in your heart lately?  The bible says it’s a direct reflection of who you are and what you will become.  Do you think you are going to be successful in every endeavor?  Do you think you will be able to accomplish your heart’s desires?  Do you believe you are going to walk in divine heath so you can enjoy those golden years of resting in the Lord as you learn to trust Him more and more every day?  Sometimes it seems like we almost need a breakthrough in our lives to believe God that everything is going to be okay.  It’s easy to become negative about a situation to the point where we begin to lose hope and it's amazing the little things that can creep in to cause us so much distraction.  Actually, it begins with one little thought.  One little seed thought planted that is contrary to what God has said.  If our hearts aren’t right and we entertain that thought instead of casting it down, it can grow and grow as we find ourselves nurturing it with even more doubts and fears.  Eventually our hopes are hanging by a thread, and we have a bleak outlook on life.  When you feel like your hopes are slipping, it’s time to pay attention to your thought life and get thankful.  Many times, throughout the bible we see God’s people pull themselves up from despair by reflecting on and then proclaiming the goodness of God.  David, in Psalm 73:21 says, “then I realized my heart was bitter and I was all torn up inside.” (NLT)  Have you ever felt bitter?  How about all torn up inside?  It's a rough place to be!

The Lord doesn’t want us to live all wrought up about today or our tomorrows.  What kind of witness is that?  It definitely doesn’t demonstrate that we are trusting in His goodness and unfailing love!  When David realized he was having a crisis of conscience and was ready to make the changes necessary to turn things around he started boasting about his God.  He started looking at the size of his God compared to the size of his problems and the circumstances weren’t enough to keep him down.  David said that his heart may fail, and his spirit may grow weak, but God will always be the strength of his heart.  In these verses David reveals to us a key "heart attitude" that will put an end to our heart suffering.  In verse 28 he proclaims, “How good it is to be near God, I have made the Sovereign Lord my shelter and I will tell everyone about the wonderful things you do.”  (NLT)  David started out bitter and all torn up inside about what was going on in his life but when he got his mind off his circumstances and on His God he cheered up and got himself a brand new attitude.  If you feel like you have got a desperate situation today, start doing the same.  We do that by telling others of the wonderful things God does in our lives.  What has God done for you?  It might not be easy to see all God is doing in your life at first glance so ask Him to reveal it to you.  Dig deep, it will be worth it.  From the time your eyes opened this morning until the time they will close tonight God is going to pack your day full of all kinds of blessings you would never even realize if you didn't look for them!

Come and listen, all you who fear God, and I will tell you what He did for me. ~Psalm 66:16 (NLT)

What negative thoughts have you been nurturing for way to long?
